Engineering is a challenging but rewarding career. At Geneva, students are equipped with tools and knowledge to best prepare them for their careers. One of the tools provided to them is help finding a job using their degree. Finding which area to specialize in can be tricky, but hopefully, the options below give ideas that fit your interests.
IT Consultant - IT consultants assess a company's IT infrastructure and systems and make changes as needed. They diagnose IT issues and create timelines for projects. They can also generate technological solutions to meet an organization's IT needs. Additionally, they may assist with minor repairs and maintenance occasionally.
Civil Engineer - Civil engineers design, build, construct, and maintain public and private systems, such as airports, roads, bridges, and water supply systems. They work to improve the environment by evaluating if a project is sustainable and how it may affect the environment.
Mechanical Engineer- Mechanical engineers assess thermal and mechanical devices, troubleshoot issues with these devices, and build and repair these devices. They conduct experiments to improve product designs. Additionally, these engineers collaborate with project managers and other teams of engineers.
Electrical Engineer - Electrical engineers design, advance, and apply electrical equipment and devices, such as motors, power generators, and communication systems. They may also manage the manufacturing of these systems and devices to ensure quality standards are upheld. Other responsibilities include operating computer-assisted engineering software and putting in place manufacturing and installation standards.
Chemical Engineer - Chemical Engineers design, advance, and diagnose processes in the production of fuel, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and biologicals. They often work in manufacturing plants to assist in ensuring product quality. These experts also help develop and implement chemical manufacturing processes.
Environmental Engineer - Environmental engineers develop, assess, and refine environmental investigation reports. They create and carry out projects that support environmental protection and design technology to help with waste management and pollution control. This job also studies human influences on the environment and creates reports for legislators based on their discoveries.
Biomedical Engineer - Biomedical engineers create biomedical devices and equipment, such as medical machinery, artificial limbs, and internal organs. They find solutions to problems within the biology and medical fields while working to improve the effectiveness and quality of patient care. Other tasks include assessing the safety and effectiveness of biomedical equipment and training clinicians on how to use the equipment.
Software Engineer - A software engineer develops and puts into place software systems and testing methods. They conduct software programming projects and inspect data to arrange the installation of new software systems. These engineers also survey the usefulness of software systems and test new software to determine its efficiency.
Senior Systems Engineer – A senior systems engineer will maintain the efficiency of various systems. They put in place complex systems and networks. Analyzing, implementing, and troubleshooting are key responsibilities.
Engineering Manager - Engineering managers responsibilities include ensuring project requirements are met, managing budgets, and overseeing a team of engineers. This role also prepares reports based on a project's progress.
Overall, engineering jobs offer a wide range of success and challenges. No matter what type of engineering interests you, there is sure to be a path that suits your skills and interests. While the work can be demanding, it is also incredibly fulfilling to see your creations and projects come to life.
