A Transfer’s Reasons for Why You Should Transfer to Geneva

Imagine sitting in an auditorium next to 500 other students and you don’t know a single one of them. It’s your first day of classes and you’ve prepared yourself as much as you could for this day. You’ve bought all the necessary school supplies, you’ve walked your class route and double checked your class schedule, you and your roommate have shared small talk and filled out the roommate agreement, and you might have even called your mom to tell her that you’ve settled in just fine. But what you’re now realizing as you sit in that classroom is that there was no possible way for you to prepare for what could make you stand out in a crowd of that many students, let alone the other 15,000 students attending that college.

Meet Celia - Transfer Student

What makes you so unique over the other students? After all, you’re just a number on a seat and for the rest of the semester, your professor is going to call you by your number rather than your name because how could he possibly get to know you when he has over 1,000 students in all of his classes combined?

This is one of the many reasons why I transferred to Geneva College. Sure, it wasn’t hard to succeed academically at a school that big, but there were some pieces missing to the puzzle that made my college experience far less than exceptional.

I wasn’t being fed spiritually. At a larger school, there are opportunities to be a part of Christian groups on campus. But in my case, the Christian group that I joined was led by students. Kids leading kids can be dangerous and sometimes stunt spiritual growth. Without experienced leadership, it was incredibly hard to get answers to the questions that I had about my faith. For me to stand out among the crowd, I needed leaders who could set the example of uniqueness in Christ.

I didn’t have privacy because I lived on a co-ed wing. There were boy’s rooms on either side of my room, and we only had two bathrooms to share among all 20 students who lived on my wing. There were no rules about sharing bathrooms or sleeping over in the room of an opposing gender and the quiet hours were hardly ever honored.

Needless to say, I was desperate for privacy, community and spiritual growth. So, I started to look for small Christian colleges and I stumbled upon Geneva! I visited, applied got accepted and moved in all within six months. Geneva is everything and more than I could have asked for. My classes are small and I have the opportunities to stand out among a smaller sea of believers. I have discovered that I am unique and capable of so much more now that I have the opportunities to be involved. My voice is heard, and I wouldn’t trade that for any amount of how the world views the college experience.

I count my time and education here at Geneva as investments, and I believe that transferring to Geneva was one of the best decisions I’ve made. So, if you are anything like me and you’re desperate to be fed spiritually, socially and emotionally, I can guarantee that you’ll find what you’re looking for at Geneva. Transfer to Geneva and discover how capable you are to do great things. You’ll be glad you did!
