Five Strengths of Geneva’s New B.S. in Management

Geneva College has introduced a new management program beginning in the fall of 2018. This program provides a professional management education from a Christian worldview and within the context of a liberal arts education. It combines coursework and skill attainment in business management and human resource management, in addition to a strong business core that develops comprehensive understanding of modern business concepts and practices.

Here are five strengths of the new program.

Lets students develop a versatile set of skills

Management majors at Geneva learn from all the major disciplines of management, including operations management, managerial accounting, human resource management, strategic management, ethics and more. Students develop a multi-faceted skillset to help them operate within cross-functional teams.

Prepares students for many career possibilities

Employment of management occupations is projected to grow 8% from 2016 to 2026, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which will result in about 807,300 new jobs. Employment growth is expected to be driven by the formation of new organizations and expansion of existing ones, which should require more workers to manage these operations. The median salary for management occupations in May 2016 was $100,790, the highest wage of all major occupational groups. The #4 top major in The Princeton Review list of best college majors for job prospects, alumni salaries and popularity is Business. Kiplinger’s rated the Business Management major #5 in their list, “Best College Majors for Your Career 2017-2018.”

Introduces students to a diverse range of topics

Management at Geneva offers foundational education informed by the latest in contemporary research, and course selection from the general business core and cutting-edge explorations in management topics. Students will gain knowledge in numerous areas including supervision, entrepreneurship, project management, employee and labor relations, compensation & benefits, strategic staffing, biblical management and business ethics.

Produces leaders in all areas of life

Being a manager is about more than just managing people—it is about being a strong leader. A B.S. in Management from Geneva College will not only prepare you to be a leader as a manager in a professional setting, but it will prepare you to lead in a number of ways throughout your life. By gaining knowledge about the core responsibilities management entails, you will develop skills that will help you lead effectively in other ways, by learning how to take initiative, build relationships, encourage teamwork, motivate others, and display integrity and honesty as you live your life for the glory of God.

Teaches management skills from a Christian perspective

Education from a Christian perspective seeks to establish the starting point apart from which ultimate truth can never be learned. Beginning with a perspective of the servant-leadership of Jesus Christ, business management degree students learn how to balance the needs of organizations and people to produce satisfying and meaningful results.
