The career development center maintains a resource area that includes brochures and handouts, pamphlets, books, videos, and other reference volumes. Computerized resources include Discover career guidance software, Internet searches, and GRE prep software. The career development center page of Geneva College′s Web site includes career guidance information, a calendar of events and recruiting schedules, and links to job banks and other career-related Web sites.
Seminars are offered on self-assessment, resumes, cover letters, portfolios, and interviewing skills. The career development center participates in several consortium job fairs in the Pittsburgh area.
The career development center is located on the upper level of the Student Center. The services of career development are designed to enhance the professional career orientation of the curriculum and to complement career counseling in the academic departments. These services are available to all Geneva students and alumni.
The department of psychology, counseling and human services has a computer room designated for the use of undergraduate and graduate psychology/counseling students only. This lab is located on the second floor of Northwood Hall. Computers are loaded with Microsoft Word, Netscape, and various other word processing and psychological programs. Student accounts can be set up after a brief training time.
The college also offers two larger computer labs (one in Northwood and one in the Science & Engineering Building) for student use. Again, a brief training time is needed before student accounts will be activated.
Geneva College offers counseling services to the college and local community. Each year about 10 percent of the Geneva College student body is seen for a wide variety of issues including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, addictions, and relational difficulties (including marital and family).
