BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -Byron G Curtis, assistant professor of biblical studies at Geneva College, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation for his Ph.D. degree from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia Thursday, April 21. He passed with honors.
Curtis′ dissertation, a piece of original research entitled, "Up the Steep and Stony Road: The Book of Zechariah in Social Location Trajectory Analysis," is a sociological analysis of the changing relationship between the Old Testament prophet Zechariah and his audience society in ancient Judah, and features a new argument for the authorial unity of this prophetic book. Curtis will now seek to publish the dissertation with the assistance of a faculty development grant from Geneva
Curtis, a native of Pittsburgh, is a minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He served as a pastor in Cary, North Carolina for six years and has served on the Geneva faculty for fourteen years. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Biblical Literature.
Curtis graduated magna cum laude from Geneva in1976 with a bachelor′s degree in Bible. He received his master′s from the Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi in 1980. He also did graduate studies in Hebrew Bible at Duke University.
