Marilyn024.jpg BEAVER FALLS, Pa.— Miss Marilyn Van Dyke, assistant librarian, will be honored at a dinner in Alexander Hall Friday, May 5, at 6 p.m. for her fifty-one years of service at Geneva College.  She will retire in August of this year.

Van Dyke began working for Geneva July 5, 1955 as an assistant librarian. She was instrumental in bringing Geneva′s library into the computer age through the use of an automated information retrieval system, the “Intelligent Catalog.” The catalog provided access to the library′s 240,000 resource items. She was also involved in the On-line Computer Library Center project. The system allowed researchers to access information from 3,100 libraries located in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Van Dyke graduated from Geneva in 1954 and earned her M.L.S. from Carnegie Library School in 1955. In 1989, she was honored as scholar-of-the-year by Geneva.  She is a life long resident of Beaver Falls.
