Urbana, OH – Just eight minutes into Saturday′s game at Urbana University, Geneva′s women found themselves down 1-0 to the Blue Knights. After suffering a 1-0 loss to California, PA in the season opener on Thursday, the Golden Tornadoes were not about to settle for another hard luck loss. Just two minutes before the halftime whistly, freshman Amanda Munsch took a pass from Jenna Witkowski and scored Geneva′s first goal of the season and the first goal of her career.

With the score tied at 1-1 after the first half, Geneva scored the game′s final two goals and came away with a 3-1 victory. Witkowski scored the eventual game winning tally in the 56th minute with the assist credited to Kelsey Anderson. Anderson then scored her first goal of the season in the 71st minute off of a pass from Nicole Beadling. The victory evened Geneva′s overall record at 1-1 on the young season.

Amber Weaver went the distance in goal for the victory. Weaver stopped seven of eight shots to earn her first 2006 win. Geneva out shot Urbana nine to eight in the victory.

The news was not all good, however, for the Golden Tornadoes. Red shirt freshman Amanda Caler, who was forced to sit out all of last year with a knee injury, was forced to leave the game in the first half after suffering a significant injury to the other knee. Caler′s status for the rest of the season is not yet known, however, it would be a significant loss for the Golden Tornadoes. Caler played perhaps the best game of any Golden Tornado in the season opening loss to California, PA.

Geneva returns to Merriman Athletic Complex on Tuesday to host Cedarville University. The Golden Tornadoes begin conference play at home on Thursday against Point Park University.
