Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva′s women′s soccer team has played three matches so far in 2006. The Golden Tornadoes have won their only road match and have now dropped both matches at home. On Tuesday, Geneva dropped a 4-1 decision to Cedarville University dropping its overall record to 1-2, while Cedarville remained unbeaten at 2-0.

The Yellowjackets scored the first two goals of the match off the feet of Colleen Derry in the 12th minute and Lisa Burgman in the 28th minute. The Golden Tornadoes got back into the match with a goal just four minutes before halftime. Jenna Witkowski took a feed from Lisa Drentkiewicz and notched her second goal of the season to cut the lead in half.

Geneva′s momentum was short lived when Cedarville′s Erin Landers connected for goal number three just seven minutes into the second half. The Yellowjackets put the game away on a penalty kick goal from Lisa Blackburn in the 60th minute.

Cedarville out shot Geneva 20-8 on the night and it was only the acrobatics of sophomore goalkeeper Amber Weaver that kept the Golden Tornadoes close. Weaver managed 16 saves in the loss, while Cedarville′s Amber Laing won for the second time in two collegiate starts by turning away seven Geneva shots.

The Golden Tornadoes open AMC North conference play on Thursday when they welcome Point Park University to Merriman Athletic Complex.
