Bethany, WV – Baby steps are a good thing for first year head coach Todd Beall and the Geneva men′s soccer team. Coming into Friday′s match at Bethany, Geneva was still looking for its first victory. The Golden Tornadoes are still looking for their first victory, but thanks to the heroics of sophomore goalkeeper Sam McCracken, Geneva didn′t come away with its third loss. Geneva and Bethany battled to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime. Geneva′s overall record moves to 0-2-1, while Bethany checks in at 2-1-1.

Bethany controlled the play for most of the night and out shot Geneva 22-11 for the game. Sam McCracken picked up his first shut-out of the season with nine saves, including several significant efforts late in regulation and in overtime.

Bethany appeared to have broken the tie with the game winning goal in the second overtime, however, an off-side call negated the goal with just over one minute left to play.

Geneva was led by H.P. McCracken′s three shots, while Mark Zurbrick added a pair of shots. For Bethany, goalkeeper Kosta Floros was forced to make just four saves on the night to come away with a shut-out.

The Golden Tornadoes will remain in Bethany, WV on Saturday where they will meet McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon. Geneva doesn′t open the home portion of its season until September 20th when it hosts LaRoche College.
