Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva and St. Vincent were locked in a defensive struggle in women′s soccer on Tuesday night. Neither offense could find the net in regulation. It was the Bearcats that got the clincher nine minutes into overtime for a 1-0 victory over the Golden Tornadoes. The loss dropped Geneva to 3-3 overall, while St. Vincent improved to 2-1.

Kylie Simonini took a lead pass from Alex Shasko and headed toward Geneva′s net in the first sudden death overtime. Simonini beat Geneva goalkeeper Amber Weaver for the game′s only goal.

Weaver was once again solid in Geneva′s net with 13 saves and Simonini goal′s ended Weaver′s streak of 190 consecutive scoreless minutes. For St. Vincent, Abby Chabitnoy stopped all 11 of Geneva′s shots on goal to earn the victory and the shut-out.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout the match, but neither side could find the net against some very stingy defense. Geneva, which came into the match having won its last two matches, took 20 shots in the game, but came up empty.

Geneva will get back into AMC North play, where its 1-0 on the season, when it travels to Ursuline College on Saturday afternoon.
