Rochester, NY – Geneva′s women′s soccer team got an early season test on Saturday night and the Golden Tornadoes came up short against AMC North foe Roberts Wesleyan. The Raiders scored the first two goals of the game within five minutes of each other in the first half and never looked back as they took care of Geneva 4-1. The loss dropped the Golden Tornadoes to 4-5 overall, including a 2-1 record in the AMC North.

Goals in the 23rd and 28th minute by Roberts Wesleyan forced the Golden Tornadoes to try and play catch-up all night long. Geneva did cut the lead in half before the halftime break when Melissa Brooks took a pass from Jamie Williams and found the back of the net in the 44th minute.

Geneva′s momentum, however, was short-lived as Roberts Wesleyan came out of halftime and scored its third goal in the 55th minute and then put the game away with another tally 14 minutes later.

Although the game was evenly played, which was indicated by the shot totals of 17 for Geneva and 19 for Roberts Wesleyan, the Raiders took advantage of their opportunities. Both goalkeepers, including Geneva′s Amber Weaver, made 11 saves on the night.

Geneva will get a whole week off to recover before hosting Houghton College at Merriman Athletic Complex next Saturday afternoon.
