Mt. Vernon, OH – A slow start on Saturday afternoon proved to be the difference for Geneva in a 6-2 loss at Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The Golden Tornadoes watched Mt. Vernon score four first half goals, including the game′s first goal just three minutes into play. The loss was Geneva′s fourth straight and it dropped the Golden Tornadoes to 4-7 on the season. The Golden Tornadoes have now been outscored 22-4 in their seven losses in 2006.

Mt. Vernon opened the scoring with goals in the third minute and extended its lead just ten minutes later. The Golden Tornadoes were able to cut the lead in half in the 17th minute when Amanda Munsch scored on a pass from Nicole Beadling. A successful penalty kick from Mt. Vernon late in the first half stole away Geneva′s momentum and just three minutes later, the Cougars extended their lead 4-1 moments before halftime.

Following two goals in a one-minute span that extended the Cougars′ lead to 6-1, Geneva concluded the scoring on Jenna Witkowski′s fifth goal of the season.

Geneva managed just four shots on the day, two of which found the back of the net. Mt. Vernon out shot the Golden Tornadoes 18-4 on the day. Amber Weaver made 11 saves in the game before being replaced in the second half for the first time in 2006.

Geneva has now lost back to back road games after beginning the season with three consecutive road victories. The Golden Tornadoes will continue its road schedule with the second of four straight away from home when they travel to Notre Dame College for an AMC North match-up on Monday. Geneva won′t return home until it hosts Daemen College on October 14th.
