Mt. Union, OH – Geneva′s women′s volleyball team finally got its chance to open the 2006 season on Friday night. The Golden Tornadoes were quite impressive in picking up a pair of victories on the first day of the Mt. Union College Tournament. In match number one, the Golden Tornadoes swept Dickinson College 3-0 in very impressive fashion. In the night cap, Geneva swept past Defiance College by an identical 3-0 score.

Marisa Barickman served as the offensive star of the day with a combined 31 kills in the two victories. Setting up Barickman was senior setter Caryn Azure. Azure posted 69 assists in the victories, including an impressive 42 helpers in the victory over Defiance.

Geneva had four other players post double-digit kill numbers to help a very balanced Golden Tornadoes attack. Allison Seldomridge posted 33 digs in the two matches from her libero position. Megan Summers, who returned after sitting out the 2005 season with a knee injury, was solid in the middle. Summers had six blocks and 11 kills in the two matches.

Geneva will take to the court on Saturday morning against long-time rival Malone College. If the Golden Tornadoes get past Malone, they will play for the tournament championship later in the day.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to CMU next Wednesday before opening the home schedule on September 14th against Thiel College.
