Geneva Climbs to 17th in NAIA Poll

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s football team has opened the 2006 campaign by splitting its first two games. After dropping a 7-0 decision to defending PAC champion Thiel College, the Golden Tornadoes rallied for a 27-13 victory over Olivet Nazarene. As a result, Geneva finds itself at #17 in the first NAIA Coach′s Poll of the season.

Geneva was ranked 20th in the pre-season poll and has since moved up three spots after its first two games. A total of five schools entered the poll for the first time this week, including the week′s biggest debut from Montana State-Northern, which jumped from being not ranked up to #15.

In addition to Geneva, four other MSFA Mideast League teams are listed in the poll. Eight-time defending conference champion and national runner-up, St. Francis, IN, is second in the poll, while Walsh has vaulted up to number seven after appearing 13th in the pre-season poll. Ohio Dominican, which is in just its third season, received 21 votes and sits at #26, just one point out of the top 25. Urbana University also received votes and is currently ranked 31st in the poll.

Carroll, MT, the three-time defending national champions, received all 16 first-place votes and continues to sit at the top of the poll.

Geneva will remain idle for the next two weeks before beginning its MSFA Mideast League schedule at Malone College on September 30th.
