Geneva Gives Solid Effort Early, But Falls to Mt.Vernon

Beaver Falls, PA - Mt. Vernon Nazarene picked up a 3-0 victory over Geneva College at Metheny Fieldhouse on Thursday night. Although the score would indicate a fairly easy victory for MVNU, the Golden Tornadoes gave them all they could handle in the first two games. In fact, Geneva and Mt. Vernon were tied late in both games one and two, only to see the Cougars pull away for victories in both games. The loss dropped Geneva to 7-9 overall, while Mt. Vernon improved to 19-8. The victory was also the 798th of Mt. Vernon head coach Paul Swanson, making him the winningest NAIA coach and leaving him just two shy of the 800 victory plateau.

Marisa Barickman, who is third in the AMC in kills, continued her offensive prowess with a team best 15 kills. Megan Summers added ten kills and a pair of blocks on defense. Blair Bruce chipped in with a solid effort including five kills, two service aces and three blocks.

Thursday′s match was the first of three consecutive home games in as many days. On Friday, Geneva will welcome Notre Dame College and on Saturday night Ursuline College comes calling for another AMC North tilt.
