Geneva Anything But Cavalier in Loss to Walsh

Beaver Falls, PA - The effort continues to get stronger each time Geneva′s men′s soccer team takes the field. Unfortunately for the Golden Tornadoes, the results have not been rewarding for all the hard work. On Friday night, despite 90 hard fought minutes, Geneva dropped a 2-0 decision to Walsh for its 11th consecutive winless decision, including eight shut-outs in 2006. Geneva fell to 0-8-3 on the season, while Walsh improved to 8-4-0.

The first 45 minutes saw both teams with few offensive chances in a very evenly played first half. Geneva′s Sam McCracken stopped four Walsh shots in the first half to keep Geneva in a scoreless tie. Walsh broke the offensive silence by drawing first blood in the 50th minute of the match. The Cavaliers added some insurance in the 67th minute to put the game away. Walsh blasted 11 shots in the game, while Geneva′s offense created ten opportunities. McCracken turned away nine shots by game′s end and kept his goals against average under 2.0 for the season, but again got little offensive support.

Geneva will play its second match in as many days on its home field tomorrow night. The Golden Tornadoes will welcome Myers University to Merriman Athletic Complex for a 7:00 pm kick-off tomorrow night.

Geneva, which is still very much alive in the AMC North with an 0-1-2 mark within conference play, will get back to conference action next Tuesday when it travels to Notre Dame College.
