Season Ends on Good Note, Geneva Beats Myers

Cleveland, OH - It certainly wasn′t the type of season that head coach Leta Gramlich and the Geneva women′s soccer team was hoping for when in started back in August. However, the Golden Tornadoes ended the 2006 season on a winning note with a 5-0 decision over Myers University. The victory moved Geneva′s season ending record to 6-12-0, including a pair of shut-out victories in the final two matches of the season.

Amanda Munsch opened the scoring with a goal in the 16th minute and Nicole Beadling extended the lead just three minutes later. Prior to halftime, Abby Young scored her first goal of the season to give Geneva a 3-0 advantage heading into the half.

Goals by senior Amanda Weaver and Melissa Brooks ended the scoring to give the Golden Tornadoes their second consecutive convincing victory. Geneva out shot Myers by a decisive 26-5 margin in the victory. Amber Weaver and Katherine Bull again combined on the shut-out with both goalkeepers playing 45 minutes a making a pair of saves.

The Golden Tornadoes matched their win total from a year ago in Leta Gramlich′s first go-round as head coach. Last season, the Golden Tornadoes finished 6-10-2, followed by the 6-12 record in 2006.

Geneva will say good-bye to four seniors who have now played their final game for the Golden Tornadoes. However, a solid core of returning players will highlight the 2007 roster as Geneva continues to develop into a solid contender in what will be its first season as a member of NCAA Division III and the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.
