Three Geneva Runners Qualify for Nationals at AMC Championships

"Women′s team runs to third place finish"

Tiffin, OH - It was an all-around successful weekend for head coach Bret Otte and the Geneva College cross country teams. Competing at the American Mideast Conference Championships at Tiffin University, the men′s team finished seventh out of 15 schools and the women′s team brought home a third place trophy competing in a field of 14 schools. Even more exciting was the individual days of several Geneva runners.

On the men′s side, senior Andrew Foxenberg finished 18th overall in a time of 26:24, which was good enough to qualify for the NAIA national meet. Geneva′s next highest finishers were Phil Falk (45th) and John Perkins (47th).

A pair of women runners will join Foxenberg at the national meet in Lousiville, KY in two weeks. Dee Koutsourais finished 13th and Beth Bartolomeo was 15th overall, which was good enough for both to qualify nationally. Koutsourais finished in an amazing time of 19:03, while Bartolomeo wasn′t far behind at 19:26. While Koutsourais was honored as a first-team all-conference performer, Barolomeo and Susan Fletcher (17th place) were second team honorees. Geneva′s other top finishers included Rebecca VanRegenmorter (20th) and Marsha Miller (37th).

Geneva′s women′s team still has an outside chance to qualify for the NAIA national meet as a team. That decision will be made early next week by the NAIA voters. At least Coach Otte can make his travel arrangements early as at least three of his stars will be competing on the national stage on November 18th in Louisville.
