Ft. Myers, FL – Geneva′s softball team split a doubleheader for the second time in as many days competing in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Ft. Myers, FL. In game one, Geneva defeated Cornerstone University 6-3 and then dropped a 5-4 decision to Siena Heights in game two. The split moved Geneva′s early season record to 2-2.

In game one, Geneva pounded out 11 hits against a Cornerstone team that advanced to the NAIA national tournament a year ago. Geneva jumped out on top with a four-spot in the fourth inning. An RBI triple from Mary Gaylor and RBI hits from Kim Slater and Adrienne Hays extended the lead. After Cornerstone cut the lead to 4-3 after six innings, Geneva extended its advantage with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Ashley Archer and Marisa Barickman delivered RBI hits to help Geneva to a 6-3 lead. Erinne Metler won for the second time in as many days. Metler allowed seven hits, while striking out seven for her second victory. Ashley Archer struck out the side in the seventh inning for her second save of the season.

Archer was equally dominant in her game two start, but was the hard luck loser. Archer allowed just two earned runs and struck out 11 in the loss. After Geneva took a 3-1 lead, Siena Heights rallied for the victory. Offensively, Geneva had seven hits, including a pair of knocks from Alicia Feathers and a solo homer off the bat of Amy Pearce.

Geneva will play St. Mary of the Woods in a doubleheader on Wednesday morning to continue its southern swing, which will include a total of 12 games before returning north early next week.
