Cedarville, OH - Geneva′s softball team traveled out of the snow on Saturday to play at the Cedarville University Classic. After dropping a 7-5 decision to host Cedarville in game one, the Golden Tornadoes quickly rebounded for a 2-1 victory over Madonna University to gain a split on the day. The split moved Geneva′s record to 6-8 for the season.

In game one, Geneva′s defense let itself down by allowing six unearned runs, including three in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie. The Golden Tornadoes committed three errors that allowed Cedarville to take advantage of the miscues. Geneva jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Jackie Anthony scored on a passed ball and Amy Pearce knocked in an RBI double. After Cedarville scored four unanswered runs, the Golden Tornadoes rallied to tie the game in the fourth. Amy Johnson delivered a two-run single to tie the game.

Erinne Metler got the loss after pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowed nine hits and struck out one. Offensively, Geneva banged out 11 hits including two each from Jackie Anthony, Michawn Rich and Amy Pearce.

In game two, Ashley Archer picked up a complete game victory by allowing nine hits and striking out one. Geneva again scored first with a run in the fourth inning on a Kim Slater RBI single. After Madonna scored in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, Slater scored the game winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. Anthony and Slater led Geneva with a pair of hits each in the night cap victory.

Geneva will open its home season next Thursday in Koppel when it welcomes Penn State Beaver across town.
