Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva′s softball doubleheader against Penn State Beaver on Thursday turned into a single game when the night cap was washed out after three innings. The Golden Tornadoes were able to overcome the wet weather and a soggy field for a 4-3 victory in game one. The victory moved Geneva′s overall record to 7-8 on the young season.

Geneva opened the scoring in the first inning when Jackie Anthony scored on a suicide squeeze bunt off the bat of Kim Slater. PS-Beaver claimed the lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. The Golden Tornadoes rallied to the score with a run in the third when Amy Pearce came up with an RBI single. With the visitors leading by a run into the sixth inning, Geneva picked up a pair of runs to take back the lead. Four straight hits to start the inning from Marisa Barickman, Bridget Beachy, Amy Johnson and Ashley Archer proved to be the difference. It was Archer′s bunt single the plated the game winning run.

Archer helped her own cause with three hits in the game to lead Geneva′s nine-hit attack. On the mound, Archer allowed three earned runs to pick up her fourth victory of the season. She struck out seven and walked just one in the win.

Geneva is scheduled to open conference play on Saturday at home against Carlow University.
