Geneva, Walsh Split for Second Time in Three Days

Beaver Falls, PA - The two teams changed venues on Monday, but they each got the same result from two days ago. Geneva hosted Walsh in an AMC North doubleheader as the Golden Tornadoes opened their home season at 33rd Street Field. Two days after splitting a doubleheader in North Canton, Geneva and Walsh again split a pair of games. Geneva cruised in game one 8-1, while Walsh returned the favor in the night cap by the score of 9-1. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 10-10, including a 2-2 mark in the AMC North.

Dave Foss picked up the victory in game one with a complete game seven-hitter. Foss allowed his only run in the first inning and quickly calmed down to shut-out the Cavaliers the rest of the way. With Geneva trailing 1-0 after the first half inning, the Golden Tornadoes exploded for a seven-spot in the bottom of the first. Seven of Geneva′s first eight hitters crossed the plate as the Golden Tornadoes put together a five-hit inning and took advantage of a pair of walks. Justin Montgomery and Tyler Kepiro each delivered two-run base hits, while Matt Colella and Rob Arata also knocked in runs in the first inning. Colella and Montgomery each picked up a pair of hits in the victory.

Game two was a different story as Walsh scored in four of its seven innings and scattered 14 hits around 33rd Street Field. Brandon Baughman pitched 5 2/3 innings in a losing effort, while Geneva′s offense could not get off the ground in game two. Geneva′s only run in the night cap came on a Colella sacrifice fly that plated Tadd Eyster in the sixth inning. Geneva managed just four hits in game two.

Geneva will travel to Thiel College on Wednesday for a non-conference game, before returning home on Friday to start a four-game home and home series against Myers University over the weekend.
