Geneva Solid in Sweep of Waynesburg

Beaver Falls, PA - Its been a while since Geneva′s softball team played as solid for two games as it did on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes took care of Waynesburg College in both ends of the doubleheader at Koppel Field. In game one, Geneva defeated Waynesburg 8-0 in a six inning run-shortened game. Game two only lasted five innings as Geneva brought out the bats in a 10-1 victory. Geneva has now won four straight and has improved its overall record to 9-8.

Geneva banged out ten hits in game one, including three from Jackie Anthony and two each from Michawn Rich and Mary Gaylor. Geneva broke a 0-0 tie with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning. Geneva tacked on three more in the fifth with Michawn Rich knocking in a pair with a double. On the mound, Erinne Metler tossed a complete game shut out and allowed just three hits. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Geneva jumped out in front with a run in the first inning of game two on Amy Pearce′s RBI single. Four more runs in the second and five in the third proved to be the difference. Kim Slater was 3-3 and scored three runs, while Geneva picked up 15 hits in the victory. Michawn Rich, Amy Pearce, Marisa Barickman and Alicia Feathers had two hits each. Ashley Archer won for the third straight time with a five inning outing and allowed no earned runs on one hit. Archer struck out five and walked one.

Geneva will face another future PAC team on Wednesday when it welcomes Bethany College to Koppel Field.
