BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Following a national performing tour, the Genevans have returned home to Geneva College to present a special performance for the campus and local community. The choir will perform a concert of sacred and secular choral music on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, at 8:00 p.m. in the John H. White Auditorium in Geneva′s Old Main.
Celebrating "a time for everything" is the theme of the evening. The selection of music ranges from the Renaissance to the contemporary, including three modern Jewish works, several spirituals and hymns, and a rarely-performed choral work by the 19th-century Joachim Raff. Other composers represented include Adrian Batten and Tomas Luis de Victoria of the Renaissance, the Brazilian Ernani Aguiar, and Americans such as Stephen Foster, Jester Hairston, Abraham Kaplan, and Robert Copeland.
Three small groups from within the choir will also sing: Grace Notes (women′s sextet), Eight Bells (barbershop), and the Madrigal Singers.
In addition to many concerts in western Pennsylvania, the Genevans tour annually in North America and quadrennially in Europe. They have performed in Westminster Abbey and the Royal Albert Hall in London, and in major venues in Paris, Berlin, Krakow, Venice and Florence. They recently returned from an eight-state concert tour to the Midwest and the Rocky Mountains.
Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited. A free-will offering will be received to defray expenses.
