Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva′s 2007 softball season is barely off the ground, but sophomore catcher Amy Pearce (Hackettstown, NJ) is hitting her mid-season stride. Pearce was named the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region 9 player of the week for her efforts in Geneva′s four games last week. Pearce led Geneva to a 3-1 record, including its last two games at the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL. For the season, Geneva is posting a 6-8 record after its first 14 games.

Pearce began the week with a 6-8 performance in a pair of wins over Skidmore College and Wooster College in Ft. Myers, FL. In Geneva′s 15-0 victory over Skidmore, Pearce tied a school record with five runs scored. In the night cap, Pearce knocked in the game winning run with a base hit in the bottom of the eighth of a 3-2 victory.

Last Saturday, Geneva split a pair of games at the Cedarville University Classic. Despite a 7-5 loss to Cedarville in game one, Pearce was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. In Geneva′s impressive 2-1 victory over Madonna, Pearce picked up her ninth hit of the week and her seventh run scored.

For the week, Pearce was 9-15 (.600) with a slugging percentage of .867. She scored seven runs and drove in five while catching all four games. Defensively, she threw out the only two runners that attempted to steal in the week.

Geneva will open its home schedule on Thursday against Penn State Beaver and will begin its AMC North schedule at home on Saturday when it hosts Carlow University.
