Pitching Gems Wasted, Geneva Suffers Two Hard Luck Losses

Ft. Myers, FL - You have to hit to win was the motto of the day for Geneva′s softball team on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Golden Tornadoes, Geneva had a tough time scoring runs and as a resulted wasted a pair of outstanding pitching performances in two losses at the Gene Cusic College Classic. Geneva watched Cedarville score a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal a 3-2 decision in game one. In game two, Geneva managed just two infield hits in a 5-1 loss to Siena Heights. Geneva′s overall record fell to 3-7 on the young season.

Ashley Archer pitched a complete game and took a two-hitter into the seventh inning. Cedarville was able to put four hits together in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the victory. Archer struck out three and walked three in the game. Geneva scored a pair of unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning, Kelsey Evans tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh, Amy Pearce scored on a wild pitch to give Geneva a short-lived lead. Geneva had just three hits in game one.

Game two was equally as frustrating at the plate for the Golden Tornadoes. In the first inning, Marisa Barickman reached on a bunt single and ultimately scored on a wild pitch to give Geneva a 1-0 lead, which it would hold until the fifth inning. Erinne Metler cruised through the first four innings by allowing just one hit and two base runners. In the fifth inning, Siena Heights broke the game open with five runs on four hits. Only Adrienne Hays managed another infield hit for the Golden Tornadoes in the loss.

After an off day on Sunday, Geneva will play a doubleheader on Monday morning before heading back to Beaver Falls for the northern portion of its schedule beginning next weekend at Urbana and Cedarville.
