Pitching Dominant Again, Geneva Shuts Out Grove City Twice

Grove City, PA - Geneva′s softball team has been led by its pitching staff throughout the 2007 campaign. On Monday, Geneva′s hurlers again proved to be too tough to beat as Geneva defeated Grove City twice by identical 4-0 scores. The sweep improved Geneva′s overall record to 15-10 on the season.

In game one, Erinne Metler won for the eighth time in 2007 as she hurled her fourth shut-out in five games. She allowed just five hits while striking out three and allowing just one walk. Geneva′s offense banged out eight hits, including two each for Amy Pearce and Marisa Barickman. Barickman′s two-run double in the fifth gave Geneva some needed insurance. Barickman was 2-3 with three RBI′s in game one.

Game two was also dominated by Geneva′s starting pitcher. Ashley Archer went the distance to earn her seventh victory of the season. In seven innings, Archer fanned two and walked two. She allowed just five hits. Jackie Anthony proved to be a spark at the top of Geneva′s line-up with two hits, three stolen bases and three runs scored in the night cap. Amy Pearce collected two additional hits in game two, while Michawn Rich′s two-run triple in the seventh again gave Geneva a four-run cushion.

Geneva will travel to Canton on Tuesday for a doubleheader against rival Malone College.
