Hurlers Earn Weekly Awards

"Foss Named NCCAA Pitcher of the week, Metler Claims AMC Honor"

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s baseball and softball teams have been getting some pitching of late, which may the understatement of the spring. On Tuesday, both programs received word that each had a pitcher that received weekly honors.

Junior Dave Foss was named the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) national pitcher of the week. For the same time frame, senior softball hurler Erinne Metler was named the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region 9 pitcher of the week.
Foss started a pair of games last week and won both with very impressive outings. Defeating Walsh University in an AMC North tilt, Foss allowed just one earned run. He followed up that appearance with another victory over Myers University. Again allowing just one earned run, Foss struck out eight and allowed just three hits. After allowing a lead-off single in the first inning, Foss retired 18 straight batters before allowing another single in the seventh inning. Geneva enjoyed a 6-2 week last week and is currently sitting at 15-12 overall.

As for Metler, she was as close to unhittable as a pitcher can be. She was 4-1 on the week, including three consecutive shut-outs and a string of 18 consecutive scoreless innings. She posted a 0.68 ERA in five appearances and struck out 13, while walking just three. She is 9-5 on the season and is just eight victories away from Geneva′s all-time record for wins in a career. Geneva′s softball team is 14-3 in its last 17 games and has a 17-10 overall record.
