Sweep Complete, Geneva Takes Two More From Notre Dame

Beaver Falls, PA - One day after sweeping an AMC North doubleheader from Notre Dame College, Geneva′s baseball team turned the trick again with victories over Notre Dame by scores of 4-0 and 5-4. Because of poor weather and field conditions in the Cleveland area, Notre Dame was forced to stay in Pennsylvania and play at Geneva once again on Wednesday. The four-game series turned out to be sweet for Geneva and not so sweet for the visitors. Geneva moved its overall record to 19-12, including a 6-2 mark in the AMC North.

In game one, Brandon Baughman scattered eight hits for a complete game shut-out. He only struck out one in gaining his second victory of the season. Offensively, Geneva put up runs in each of the first three innings to take control of the game. Rob Arata′s RBI single in the first got Geneva off and running. After another single run in the second inning, Tadd Eyster plated some insurance for Geneva with an RBI single in the third inning.

In game two, Geneva opened the scoring again with a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run double from Dan DeMarco. Notre Dame tied the score with a pair of runs in the third, but Geneva regained the lead on an RBI ground out from Matt Colella in the sixth inning. With the game tied at three in the seventh, Tyler Kepiro laced a two-out base hit to give Geneva the lead. Dave Foss pitched six innings to pick up the victory. Justin Montgomery allowed one run in the seventh, but picked up his fourth save of the season.

Geneva will host Penn State Beaver in a single game on Thursday and St. Vincent in a single game on Friday.
