Distance Runners Carry the Torch for Geneva at Grove City Meet

Grove City, PA - Geneva′s distance runners have been setting the pace on the course against its competition and off the course for the rest of the track and field team. Clearly the strength of the 2007 track and field team at Geneva is found with the men′s and women′s distance athletes. On Wednesday afternoon and evening, Geneva′s runners braved the elements and once again performed brilliantly at the Grove City College Invitational.

In men′s action, Andrew Foxenberg raced to a time of 15:35.71 and a first place finish in the 5000 meter event, which was an incredible one minute and ten seconds better than second place finisher and Geneva teammate Josh Falk. Foxenberg′s performance was once again good enough for a new Geneva record. Falks brother, Phil finished second in the 1500 meter race with a time of 4:08.25. Luke Duriancik and Brian Dvorsak led the way in the sprinting and field events with solid performances. Duriancik finished second in the 400 meter hurdles, while Dvorsak won the long jump and finished second in the triple jump.

In women′s action, Dee Koutsourais continued her assault on local opponents. Koutsourais ran 18:36 to win the 5000 meter event and finish almost two minutes before her closest competition. Rebecca VanRegenmorter won the 1500 meter event with teammate Marsha Miller finishing third overall.

In other action, Kelsey Anderson won the pole vault event with a distance of 2.44 meters, while Rebecca Lagestee was second in both the shot put and the discus throw.

Geneva′s track team will now prepare for the AMC Championships on April 21st.
