20th Win Comes in Offensive Slugfest, Geneva Outlasts St. Vincent

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s offense has continued to be productive throughout the first part of the 2007 campaign. On Friday, the Golden Tornadoes continued to swing hot bats as they upended St. Vincent College by the score of 13-11 in a non-conference, nine-inning affair. The victory, Geneva′s sixth in a row, moved its record to 20-12, including a 6-2 mark and a tie for first place in the AMC North.

St. Vincent struck for a total of six runs in the first two innings and held a 6-2 lead, before Geneva cut its deficit to just a run with a three spot in the third inning. Tadd Eyster came through with a two-run single in the third to pull Geneva back to within one run. St. Vincent got those three runs right back with three of its own in the fifth, before the Golden Tornadoes′ offense really got cooking. Geneva put together a seven run sixth inning to grab its first lead of the game. Matt Colella belted his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot, which was followed by a barrage of six straight hits that was capped a two-run double off the bat of Mike Bruno.

With Geneva leading 12-9 heading into the late innings, the Bearcats were able to again mount a threat with a pair of runs in the eighth before Geneva′s pitching staff finally thwarted the rally. Matt Lehman pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the victory, while Justin Montgomery earned his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

The offensive heroes were many, but were led by multiple hit efforts from Matt Colella and Tadd Eyster.

Geneva will enjoy a rare Saturday off before heading to Waynesburg for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. Next weekend, Geneva will face off against Seton Hill University in a four-game series.
