22nd Ranked Notre Dame Shows Geneva Why

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team played 29 games before its first AMC North contest. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes finally played their first divisional game and it was against 22nd ranked Notre Dame College. Geneva watched Notre Dame smash its way to a total of 18 runs on the day in a pair of victories over Geneva that abruptly ended Geneva′s six game winning streak by scores of 8-4 and 10-1. The two losses dropped Geneva′s overall record to 19-12, including an 0-2 mark in the AMC North.

Notre Dame rushed out to a 6-0 lead in game one after three innings. Geneva got on the board in the fifth with an RBI double from Kim Slater that plated Jackie Anthony. Two more runs in the sixth on a Jackie Anthony triple moved Geneva to within three. After Notre Dame tacked on a pair of seventh inning insurance runs, Geneva′s Mary Gaylor clubbed her second homer of the year in the seventh inning to close out the scoring. Erinne Metler was saddled with the loss in allowing eight earned runs in seven innings. She struck out three and walked one in the loss. Anthony and Amy Pearce had two hits and Amy Johnson reached base three times.

Game two was quite similar to game one as Notre Dame put up five runs in the first five innings. Geneva struck for a tally in the fourth on an RBI ground out from Michawn Rich, but it was too little too late for Geneva. Notre Dame finished game two with nine hits, all of which came off of loser Ashley Archer. She allowed nine earned runs in the loss. Marisa Barickman and Alicia Feathers had two hits each for Geneva in the night cap.

Geneva begins a busy week on Monday with a home AMC North doubleheader against Carlow University. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Geneva travels to Ursuline and Tiffin for two additional conference doubleheaders.
