Bruno′s Back, Senior Claims AMC and NCCAA Player of the Week Honors

Beaver Falls, PA - It was a frustrating start to the 2007 baseball season for senior outfielder Mike Bruno (New Castle, PA). A hamstring injury during Geneva′s spring trip to Florida, limited his mobility and took away several early season at-bats that would have gotten on track. After a slow start, Bruno has come back to mid-season form and has helped Geneva′s baseball team to one of its best starts in recent years. Last week, Bruno helped Geneva to a perfect 5-0 record, which pushed the Golden Tornadoes to 20-12 overall and into a first-place tie in the AMC North. As a result, he was named the AMC and NCCAA Player of the Week.

Bruno started his week by playing the role of hero in a pair of Geneva victories over Notre Dame College. In game one, Bruno blasted a grand slam to put the game away, but the best was yet to come. In the night cap, Bruno laced a two-out, RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh to give Geneva an important AMC North sweep.

For the week, Bruno was 9-19 (.474), including four runs scored, eight RBI′s and three stolen bases. Holding down left field for the Golden Tornadoes, Bruno has upped his average to .329 for the season with 21 runs scored and 20 RBI′s.

Bruno, who saw his football career come to an early end because of injury, is not about to see his final baseball season go by the boards. Geneva is tied with Walsh University for the top spot in the AMC North with eight conference games remaining, including four against Malone later this month.
