Runners Extraordinaire, Foxenberg and Koutsourais Continue to Amaze

"Both Runners Honored this Week by NCCAA"

Beaver Falls, PA - It seems as though more and more people are taking notice to the accomplishments of Geneva′s dynamic distance running duo. Seniors Andrew Foxenberg and Dee Koutsourais have each taken out their writing utensil of choice and completely rewritten the Geneva College track and field record book.

This past week, each runner reached a new standard of excellence and as a result each was awarded the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Athlete of the Week.

Foxenberg brought home a first place finish at the Grove City College Invitational in the 5000 meter event. Perhaps his third strongest event, Foxenberg has already qualified for the NAIA national meet in the 10000 meter event and the marathon. Foxenberg won the 5000 meter race at Grove City in a time of 15:35.17, which shattered yet another Geneva record. Amazingly, Foxenberg finished over one minute and ten seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

In the women′s 5000 meter race, Koutsourais was busy winning for the fourth time this spring in another tremendous race. As dominant as she was for Geneva at the Grove City Invitational, Koutsourais′ best effort came three days later at the Yough River Trail Half Marathon. Koutsourais, who has also qualified for the NAIA national meet in the marathon, brought home gold on Saturday with an incredible time of one hour and 23 minutes, which was good enough to shatter the course record.

Perhaps it′s a good thing that Foxenberg and Koutsourais are graduating this spring, since there are literally no more records to be broken. They do, however, have some unfinished business to attend to at the 2007 NAIA national meet in Fresno, CA. It will be the third trip for each of them in their pursuit of not only All-American Status, but an individual national championship.
