Power Surge, Pitching Helps Geneva Salvage Sweep

Euclid, OH - Geneva′s softball team didn′t do much on offense on Tuesday, but the Golden Tornadoes managed to scrape across two runs in the night cap against Ursuline to gain an AMC North split. In game one, Geneva dropped a 3-1 decision, but turned the tables in game two for a 2-0 victory. The split moved Geneva′s record to 20-13 overall, including a 1-3 record in the AMC North.

Erinne Metler gave a solid effort for Geneva in game one, but got almost no offensive support. Metler allowed seven hits and two earned runs in taking the hard luck loss. Offensively, Geneva managed seven hits of its own, but could generate only one run. Amy Johnson′s sacrifice fly in the second tied the game at 1-1, but Ursuline came back with single runs in the second and fifth to put the game away. Jackie Anthony and Kim Slater had two hits each in the loss.

Ashley Archer allowed seven hits in game two, but came away with her fourth shut out of the season. Archer struck out five for her 10th victory of the season. Offensively, Geneva managed just three hits, but one of those hits went over the fence. Amy Pearce pounded out her fourth homer of the season to get Geneva on the board in the first inning. Archer helped her own cause with a suicide squeeze bunt in the seventh to play an insurance run that she would never need.

Geneva will get right back into AMC North play on Wednesday when it travels to Tiffin University, the NAIA region 9 representative at the NAIA national tournament a year ago.
