Hitting Woes Continue As Geneva Falls Twice to Tiffin

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team has scored just four runs combined in its last four games. On Wednesday, the bats remained silent in a pair of AMC North losses to Tiffin University by the scores of 5-0 and 3-1. The two losses dropped Geneva to 20-15 on the season, including a 1-5 record in conference play.

Geneva allowed three unearned runs in game one as Erinne Metler took yet another hard luck loss. Metler allowed just five hits to Tiffin′s overpowering offense. Metler struck out five and walked two. Unfortunately, both walks ended up crossing the plate for the Dragons. Geneva managed just three singles in game one, two of which came off the bat of Bridget Beachy.

The bats didn′t wake up for Geneva in game two. The Golden Tornadoes did however open the scoring with an unearned run in the second inning. Marisa Barickman singled to lead off the inning and wound up scoring the game′s first run on a wild pitch. Tiffin tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second. The game remained tied until a solo homer from Tiffin in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley Archer took the loss, but allowed just three hits in six innings of work. Geneva only had two hits in the night cap.

Geneva will return home to face St. Vincent College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Mt. Vernon Nazarene over the weekend to take part in the NCCAA Eastern Regional tournament.
