Track Visits Houghton for AMC Championships

Houghton, NY - Geneva′s track and field team traveled to upstate New York on Friday and Saturday for the American Mideast Conference championships. The women′s team finished seventh, while the men were ninth in the overall standings.

Both the men and women enjoyed some solid performances on a very long weekend. For the men, Akambe Annankra finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-05.25. He also had a top ten finish in the javelin event. Other top performances on the men′s side included John Heft′s eighth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Geneva′s 4 x 100 meter relay team brought home a fourth place finish.

Speaking of solid performances in relay events, Geneva′s women had three top five finishes in relay events on Saturday. A pair of fourth place finishes in the 4 x 400 and the 4 x 800 events, along with a fifth place effort in the 4 x 100 event was cause for celebration.

Other top women finishes included Rebecca VanRegenmorter′s top ten finishes in the 800 meter event (6th) and the 1500 meter race (7th). Teammate Laura Seyler finished eighth in the 1500 meter. National qualifier Dee Koutsourais was fifth in the 10000 meter event.

Finally, three other ladies brought home third place finishes. Susan Fletcher was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase, just the second time she has ever run that race. Tiffany Bear was third in the javelin, while Kelsey Anderson was third in the pole vault.

Geneva′s women finished with a total of 45 points, while the men had 13.5 points on the day.
