Semi-Final Loss Ends Geneva's NCCAA Tournament Hopes
Marion, IN - Geneva saw its run through the NCCAA national tournament come to an end in a 7-0 semi-final loss to top seeded Olivet Nazarene on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes saw their overall record fall to 27-18 on the season.
A pair of unearned runs for Olivet in the first inning was a sign of things to come as Geneva spotted ONU five runs in the first three innings. Ashley Archer pitched four innings and picked up the loss. Archer allowed five hits and walked three in her outing. Erinne Metler threw the final two innings and allowed a pair of fifth inning runs.
Geneva, which banged out 15 hits and scored 11 runs on Friday night, managed just four hits in the game. The Golden Tornadoes did have base runners in five of the seven innings, but were just 1-8 with runners in scoring position.
Geneva's Michawn Rich and Mary Gaylor were named to the All-Tournament team, while the Golden Tornadoes also brought back some individual hardware. In addtion to its fourth place plaque, Geneva had three players named NCCAA All-Americans and three others were named Scholar-Athletes.
Sophomore Amy Pearce was named a first team All-American, while Michawn Rich and Erinne Metler were named second team selections. Metler, along with teammates Bridget Beachy and Amy Johnson were named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes.
Geneva will now turn its attention to the NAIA and its two conference games against Carlow on Monday. Should the Golden Tornadoes win two, they would host the first round of the AMC qualifier tournament next weekend.
