"Johnson Knocks in Game-Winner Against Walsh"

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team reached the 30-win plateau for just the third time in school history and the second time in as many years. The Golden Tornadoes split their regular season finale doubleheader against Walsh to move their overall record to 30-19. Geneva dropped the first game 5-3, but rallied for a 6-5 victory in the night cap.

In game one, Geneva opened the scoring with a run in the third inning on a squeeze bunt off the bat of Ashley Archer. Holding that 1-0 lead into the fifth, the Golden Tornadoes watched Walsh score five unearned runs to take control of the game. RBI singles from Melissa Lyden and Marisa Barickman made the game closer, but Geneva could not complete the comeback. Erinne Metler lost for the first time in eight outings with seven innings of work and no earned runs. She struck out one and walked one in the loss.

Walsh jumped on top of Geneva 5-1 through four innings in game two, but a four-run Geneva fifth tied the game at 5-5. RBI singles from Michawn Rich, Amy Pearce and Marisa Barickman tied the score. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Amy Johnson delivered a two-out RBI double to give Geneva its 30th victory of the season. Ashley Archer went the distance to earn her 14th victory of the year. She struck out three in the game.

Geneva will open the post-season at home on Thursday when it hosts Ursuline College in the first two games of a best of three series with the deciding game scheduled for Friday if necessary. The winner of the best of three series will advance to the NAIA Region 9 tournament next week.
