Perkins Proof that Hard Work Pays Off

"Senior Qualifies for Nationals in Marathon"

Beaver Falls, PA - John Perkins (Medina, OH) is living proof that hard work and persistence can pay off in the long run. On Thursday, Perkins represented Geneva College at the Walsh half marathon event in an effort to qualify for the NAIA national meet. His trip was worthwhile as he finished with a time of 1:17.16 ½ , which was strong enough to become the sixth Geneva athlete to qualify for the NAIA national meet later this month in Fresno, CA.

Perkins started his college life at Ohio State University. After a year away from running, he decided to transfer to Geneva, where he has since been a member of the cross country and track and field teams. With a work-out regiment that includes 50-80 miles a week, he has continued to improve and has now reached the ultimate goal.

Geneva College has certainly developed quite a reputation as a haven for distance runners. Consistent success in cross country, the Golden Tornadoes have now become a major player in the country in distance running on the track and field front. Dee Koutsourais for the women and Andrew Foxenberg for the men have all but rewritten the Geneva distance records throughout their careers. Now you can add another name to the list in John Perkins.
