GENEVA CROSS COUNTRY RUNS INTO 2007 SEASON

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s cross country opened the 2007 season at Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon. While the women′s team finished seventh overall out of 14 participating schools, the men′s team had only three healthy runners compete, which did not allow the Golden Tornadoes to officially score on the opening weekend of the season.

Because of injury and illness, Geneva managed to send just three healthy men runners to the starting line on Saturday. Two of the healthy runners came from the same family. Phillip Falk and Josh Falk finished 47th and 57th respectively to post Geneva′s top finishers. Teammate Josh Gunnett finished 95th overall, despite running with an illness of his own. Phil Falk finished the 8K race in a time of 28:43 with brother Josh coming in with a time of 28:57.

On the women′s side, the Golden Tornadoes had five runners finish in the top 50, including Beth Bartolomeo′s team best 26th finish in a time of 20:35. Rebecca VanRegenmorter (40th), Susan Fletcher (44th), Marsh Miller (47th) and Laura Seyler (49th) rounded out Geneva′s best finishes. The women′s team finished with 206 points, which put them comfortable in seventh place.

Case Western′s women scored 42 points to win the meet, while Edinboro′s men won the overall event with just 27 points.
