GENEVAENJOYS HOME OPENING WITH VICTORY

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s men′s soccer team picked up its first victory of the 2007 season on Saturday. On Tuesday night, the Golden Tornadoes won for the first time on their home field with an impressive 3-1 decision over Point Park. Geneva moved its record to 2-1, while the Pioneers fell to 1-4 on the young season.

It didn′t take long for Geneva to get on the board as freshman Scott Swartley took a feed from Johnathan Hunt and found the back of the net in the first minute of the match for his third goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 through the halftime break with Geneva out shooting Point Park 16-5 in the first 45 minutes.

In the 47th minute, Russ Picard scored his first collegiate goal to extend Geneva′s lead to 2-0. The Golden Tornadoes put the match away when Coert Voorhees stole an outlet pass from the goalkeeper and beat him between the legs for a 3-0 Geneva advantage.

The Pioneers spoiled the shutout bid with a goal in extra time to make the final score a bit more respectable. Sam McCracken started in goal and held Point Park scoreless during his 83 minutes of action.

Geneva will look to extend its modest two game winning streak at home on Thursday night when it hosts Pitt-Johnstown.
