HOME COOKIN LEADS TO FIRST VICTORY FOR
SUMNER AT G-T′S

Beaver Falls, PA - In the first home match of the season, Geneva′s women′s soccer team rallied from a goal down to capture a 2-1 victory over Franciscan University and hand first-year head coach Linda Sumner her first coaching victory. The win helped Geneva improve its overall record to 1-2, while Franciscan dropped to 1-1. The loss for Franciscan was just the third in the past two years.

Wednesday night′s contest did not start to plan as the Barons of Franciscan got a goal from Kendra Evangelho in the 36th minute to unlock a scoreless tie. It took Geneva just three minutes to tie the game when Jamie Gessner knocked in a shot from 22 yards out for her first collegiate goal.

With the game tied at one into the second half, Geneva′s Amanda Munsch was the recipient of a spectacular run and feed from Abby Young, which led to the game winning goal. Not to be overshadowed was junior goalkeeper Amber Weaver, who made two spectacular saves to hang on to the victory.

Geneva was out shot 11-8 for the match, but Weaver came up big with ten saves to preserve the first victory of the season.

The Golden Tornadoes will head back out on the road next Monday to face Seton Hill University.
