McCRACKEN BOYS LEAD GENEVATO THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Beaver Falls, PA - It was a family affair at the Merriman Athletic Complex on Thursday night for Geneva′s men′s soccer team. While freshman Jake McCracken was busy scoring the only goal in a 1-0 Golden Tornadoes victory over Pitt-Johnstown, junior Sam McCracken recorded his second shutout of the season and extended his scoreless streak to 283 minutes.

Geneva won for the third straight time and improved to 3-1, while NCAA Division II Pitt-Johnstown lost for the first time and dropped to 2-1.

Both teams played to scoreless tie through the first half and neither team was able to mount a serious challenge on net. When Jonah Creasy was upended in the penalty area in the 74th minute, the Golden Tornadoes would get just the break they needed on a penalty kick opportunity. Jake McCracken found the right side of the net for his second goal of the season and provided the only offense Geneva would need for the victory.

Geneva, which has out shot its opponents in each of its first four matches, turned the trick again with a 12-11 advantage over UPJ. Sam McCracken was up to the task by turning away all seven shots on goal.

The Golden Tornadoes will head to LaRoche College on Saturday and Pitt-Greensburg on Monday before returning home on September 15th to face Franciscan University.
