LATE LET DOWN COSTS GENEVAAT HIRAM

Hiram, OH - Geneva′s women′s soccer team played head to head with a very good Hiram College team for most of the afternoon on Monday. With the score tied at 2-2 in the second half, Geneva watched Hiram explode for three second half goals within a 16 minute period to walk away with a 5-2 victory. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 2-5, while Hiram improved to 5-1 in 2007.

Both teams traded goals as the Golden Tornadoes twice came back from one goal deficits in the first half. After spotting Hiram the first goal of the game, Jenna Witkowski notched her team leading fourth goal of the season in the 24th minute on an unassisted effort. Hiram took back the lead nine minutes later only to see Geneva tie the game again less than one minute later on Nicole Beadling′s first goal of the season.

Hiram out shot Geneva 28-13 in the match, but Amber Weaver came up with 13 saves to keep Geneva close for most of the game. Hiram got second half goals in the 72nd, 74th and 88th minutes to put the game away.

The Golden Tornadoes remained winless on the road at 0-5, while posting a perfect 2-0 record on home turf. Geneva will once again try to defend its home field on Wednesday night when it welcomes Walsh University to Merriman Athletic Complex for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
