SECOND HALF BLUES CONTINUE IN LOSS TO WALSH

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s women′s soccer team put its perfect 2-0 home record on the line Wednesday night against former American Mideast Conference opponent Walsh University. Although Geneva hadn′t lost a home match, the trend of second half collapses has followed the women′s team for much of the early season.

On Wednesday, Geneva dropped a 3-0 decision to Walsh as the Golden Tornadoes watched the Cavaliers score all of their goals in the final 45 minutes of the match. It was the second time in as many games that a Geneva opponent broke open a halftime tie by netting three goals.

Walsh and Geneva played to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes thanks mostly to Golden Tornadoes goalkeeper Amber Weaver who turned away all ten Walsh shots on goal in the first half. For the match, Weaver had 12 saves, but again it was the three that she couldn′t stop that proved to be the difference.

Walsh opened the scoring with a tally in the 46th minute and stretch the lead to two goals on a penalty kick goal in minute number 69. The Cavaliers put the match away with their third and final goal of the night in the 79th minute. Walsh out shot Geneva 26-6 for the game as Geneva dropped to 2-6 for the season, including three straight losses. Walsh put an end to a modest two-game losing streak and moved to 6-2 on the season.

Geneva will be back in action next Tuesday when it travels to Case Western. The Golden Tornadoes will return home on October 1st to take on PAC opponent Westminster College.
