AT LONG LAST, STREAK IS OVER, GENEVASPLITS

A PAIR AT CMU TOURNAMENT

Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s women′s volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Carnegie Mellon University tournament on Friday night. Geneva′s 3-2 victory over John Carroll in the first match of the night enabled that gorilla to jump off the backs of Geneva′s women as it picked up the first victory of the season after having suffered through a 0-11 start. Unfortunately, that winning feeling didn′t last long as the Golden Tornadoes dropped the night cap 3-0 to Muskingum College.

Geneva dropped a 3-0 decision to John Carroll earlier in the year so the Golden Tornadoes not only picked up their first win of the season, but had the chance to enact some revenge on JCU.

Geneva dropped the first game 30-26, but quickly rallied to win games two and three. JCU forced a fifth and deciding game where the Golden Tornadoes and freshman Adriane Blake took over the match with a 15-8 victory in the decisive game. Blake finished the match with 21 kills, but five of those kills came in the fifth game on just five swings of her right arm. Blake got help from Sarah Bruck, who chipped in with 11 kills and Laure Zerbe added nine.

Brandi Snavely directed the offense with 50 assists, while Faith Guerra took care of the defensive end of things with 30 digs in the victory.

Muskingum swept Geneva in the second match of the night by scores of 30-25, 30-27, 30-24. Geneva will try to build off of Friday night′s victory with a pair of matches on Saturday at CMU. Geneva will meet Capital at 10 am and will turn around and face Otterbein at 2 pm.
