SECOND HALF GOAL SINKS GENEVAAT MALONE
Canton, OH - Geneva′s men′s soccer team had the opportunity to go back and play one of its old friends from the American Mideast Conference on Saturday afternoon. Coming in having won nine of its last ten matches, Geneva took a step backwards with a 1-0 loss to the Pioneers. Geneva′s overall record fell to 9-3 as it was unable to solve the Malone defense.
After each team went to the halftime break scoreless, neither team could find the net midway through half number two. Despite chances on both sides, Geneva and Malone remained scoreless until the Pioneers untied the contest with the only goal of the match in the 70th minute.
Geneva could not generate many opportunities in the final 20 minutes and suffered only its second loss in its last 11 games.
Sam McCracken, who entered the game having allowed just five goals all season, was once again at the top of his game. McCracken kept Geneva in the contest, although the Golden Tornadoes could not find the recipe for offensive success.
Geneva will try to get back into the win column next Wednesday when it gets back into its PAC schedule with a trip to Saint Vincent. The Golden Tornadoes will return home next Friday night against Waynesburg.
