GENEVAENJOYS MEATLOAF DAY AT BETHANY

Bethany, WV- As popular rock star Meatloaf once sang in the 1970′s, two out of three ain′t bad. For co-head coaches Curt Conser and Wendy Smith it wasn′t bad, but it could have been a whole lot more fun had it not been for the one that got away. Geneva started its Saturday by dropping a 3-2 decision to Saint Vincent College after starting the match by winning games one and day. To the credit of the Golden Tornadoes, the loss didn′t ruin the day as Geneva managed a 3-1 victory over Bethany and a 3-0 shut-out win against Thomas More to end the day. The 2-1 record moved Geneva′s overall mark to 6-14 for the 2007 season.

In the loss to Saint Vincent, Geneva′s Adriane Blake and Sarah Bruck each threw down a team best 17 kills. Brandi Snavely led the offense with 49 assists, while Faith Guerra led the defense with 21 digs.

Geneva was in control against Saint Vincent and had a chance to close out the match in four games, but the Bearcats prevailed 30-27 and then cruised to a 15-5 victory in the decisive fifth game.

The Golden Tornadoes responded with a victory over Bethany in which they dropped game one and came back to win three straight. In that victory, Sarah Bruck had a team high 18 kills, while Snavely was again efficient from the setters position with 44 assists.

In the final match of the night, Geneva cruised to a victory against PAC first place team Thomas More in three straight games. Blake led the way with 16 kills and Geneva walked away with a positive day on the court.

Geneva will finally get a chance to play back at Metheny Fieldhouse this week. After playing only one of its first 20 matches at home, the Golden Tornadoes will host W & J on Wednesday night.
