HANSEN TAKES NOTICE, GENEVAENTERS DIVISION III POLL

Beaver Falls, PA- It′s rare that a football team loses a game and grabs the attention of the national pollsters. For Geneva′s football team, it wasn′t just a loss, but a loss to the 13th ranked team in the nation. On Saturday, Geneva dropped a 20-7 decision to Salisbury University, a team that had been averaging 43 points per game. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 4-2, but it also grabbed the attention of the Dan Hansen Football Gazette. In losing, Geneva entered the NCAA Division III national poll for the first time this season at #39.

In its first season as a member of NCAA Division III, Geneva is not eligible for NCAA post-season as it begins year number one as a provisional member. Despite the provisional tag, Geneva has still enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2007 season. Geneva′s only two losses this season have come against two teams that are currently ranked in the top ten in Division III. Salisbury moved up this week to #10, while Washington & Jefferson is sitting at #6 this week. Geneva and W & J are the only two Presidents′ Athletic Conference schools listed in the top 40.

In addition to its top 40 ranking in NCAA Division III, Geneva is also ranked #3 in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) poll behind Mid-America Nazarene and Malone. Geneva is seeking its fifth trip to the NCCAA Victory Bowl this year and will have to finish as one of the top two teams in the NCCAA poll to qualify. Mid-America Nazarene is not eligible for the Victory Bowl, so as it stands, Geneva would be in line for an invitation to the November 17th bowl game. However, Geneva still has four games remaining on the regular season schedule, including its next challenge in Crestview Hills, KY against Thomas More College on October 20th.
